Who We Are (And Why That Actually
Who We Are
(Besides the punchline to a very niche joke.)
We’re just a group of ordinary South Africans who looked at the cannabis industry, saw the chaos, the confusion, the potential — and thought:
“Surely this can be done better… and legally… and maybe even with some dignity?”
Enter: The Cannabis Commerce Forum (CCF).
A collaborative platform powered by good intentions, strong coffee, and the occasional deep sigh at outdated legislation.
We’re not a government body.
We’re not trying to be your boss.
We’re the people behind the people trying to build a proper, sustainable cannabis industry in South Africa.
And yes — if you lined us up at a braai, it might sound like the start of a joke:
“An attorney, an accountant, a commercial cannabis grower, and a pastor walk into a compliance meeting…”
That’s not a joke. That’s our founding team.
What unites us?
A shared belief that South Africa’s Cannabis Master Plan has real potential — but it will take collaboration to move it forward.
And we mean everyone.
From uncles growing in the backyard to CEOs drafting policy.
CCF was built on collaboration, not control.
Because cannabis shouldn’t be cornered by the privileged few.
It should be grown with community and guided by collective wisdom.
What We’re Actually Doing
Let’s not sugarcoat it.
Trying to run a cannabis business in South Africa right now feels like trying to build a house… during a windstorm… while blindfolded… with everyone shouting different building codes at you.
One law says private use is permitted.
Another says you can grow but not sell.
There’s a form somewhere — maybe — for something — possibly.
Welcome to the grey zone.
So what are we doing about it?
Advocacy for Practical Change
We’re not shouting into the void.
We engage directly with government departments, policy advisors and industry stakeholders to help shape cannabis regulations that work in the real world — not just on paper.
Compliance Guidance
No more guessing games.
We help retailers understand what’s required right now — and how to prepare for what’s coming next. From audit preparation to compliance templates, we simplify what feels complicated.
Section 21 Facilitation
For registered members, we assist with SAHPRA-aligned medical access pathways — without additional facilitation fees.
Because legal access should not feel unreachable.
Education & Training
We provide practical education for store owners, staff and consumers so everyone understands their rights, responsibilities and risks.
Compliance should empower — not intimidate.
Affiliate Support & Store Checks
Our affiliate programme includes store check-ins, certification pathways and tools that build credibility with customers and regulators alike.
Because legal cannabis should feel like a launchpad — not a trap.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about cannabis.
It’s about:
- Outdated laws versus modern realities
- Economic opportunity versus exclusion
- Stigma versus science
- Informal markets versus legitimate enterprise
Right now, retailers are operating in legal grey areas.
Patients struggle with access.
Entrepreneurs — especially from underrepresented communities — are often excluded before they even begin.
Meanwhile, the unregulated black market continues to grow.
A functioning cannabis industry means:
- Job creation
- Tax revenue
- Safer consumer access
- Legal pathways for entrepreneurs
- A genuine opportunity to address deep-rooted inequalities
This is not about handing out licences recklessly.
It’s about building something structured, inclusive and sustainable — where compliance becomes a passport to growth, not a punishment.
What We’re Working Toward
We’re not here to observe from the sidelines.
We’re here to build — brick by compliant brick.
Clear Adult-Use Commercialisation
Transparent, inclusive policies that allow everyday South Africans — not just large corporates — to participate legally in the adult-use market.
Safe & Compliant Access
Vetted, transparent pathways for consumers and retailers alike.
Job Creation & Industry Readiness
Training programmes that prepare individuals to enter the cannabis economy with skills, knowledge and confidence.
Education & Destigmatisation
Public awareness initiatives that replace fear with fact, and stigma with science.
Global Participation
South Africa has world-class genetics and untapped potential. With proper regulation and industry unity, we can compete on the global stage responsibly.
Government Collaboration
We believe progress happens through engagement — not opposition.
We work with departments to pilot practical frameworks and collect real-world data that supports smarter regulation.
Our Rallying Cry
The system may be complicated.
The frameworks may still be evolving.
But the opportunity is real.
The people are ready.
And the time is now.
Whether you’re a retailer, consumer, policymaker or simply someone who wants to see South Africa build something sustainable and inclusive — we invite you to be part of the movement.
Let’s legalise.
Let’s organise.
Let’s commercialise — responsibly and together.
